Artface Zirignon

i like to play in the dirt and set things on fire.

I am  a teaching artist, and former studio technician currently residing in the DFW Metroplex in Texas.

Conceptually, my current body of work is a study in the degradation of things behind accepted "norms" that lead to states of collapse, (collapse of biosphere, climate, infrastructure, society, culture, the self etc) through media of ceramics, printmaking, and fibers.

My forms are primarily everyday objects associated with comforts of ritual, craft, and home with imagery using themes of collapse to explore the everyday banality and acceptance of a dystopian life. In the western world there is a privilege of disconnect and the creation of cognitive dissonance with our daily comforts.  I also draw on my experiences as an herbalist, integrating various aspects of herbal lore and traditional medicine into my work directly. I have developed a collection of archetypal imagery to disseminate various concepts throughout my work as they pertain to aspects of collapse.

My work does not seek to suggest that I have answers to any problems.  I want to raise awareness, and spark conversation.  Even if it has to be in cautious whispers to tentative allies.
